Of course, we all know that’s not how gamers operate. Now, the devs are working to cull the repetitive gameplay but note that getting rid of all of it won’t be easy.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>The other issue players had was that despite the repeating gameplay requiring them to spend more time in the game, there wasn’t really all that much to do. Now, just past that one year mark, the game will shut down.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>That's not all that unusual, but what is a bit weird in this instance is that both the publisher, Skystone Games, and the developer, Studio Surgical Scalpels, are blaming each other. Skystone \u003Ca href=\"https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1364020/view/4209257868262605607?l=english\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">says that the dev team\u003C/a> hasn't been able \"to deliver the necessary updates and improvements to keep the game thriving. This has led to growing concerns within our community, and we share your frustration.\"\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>As a result, they are giving up the publishing of the game at the end of June. The \"Reloaded\" mode also drops a new map. The map will still feature familiar locations like Tilted Towers, but it'll be a bit smaller than a normal-sized map as the mode is tuned for 40-player matches instead of the typical 100 players.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>Obviously the mode will include new rewards and you can check those out on the \u003Ca href=\"https://www.fortnite.com/news/squad-up-for-fortnite-reload\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official post\u003C/a>, but the new rules are where things get very different.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>In Reload, if you are eliminated, you'll automatically revive 30 seconds later (40 seconds when deeper into the match) as long as a single player in your squad is still alive. Yes, this is a thing. It doesn’t hurt to be a bit of a math nerd and have an affinity for Excel either.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>Because of Eve’s “the players make the game” type of gameplay, there are no questlines to follow and there’s every chance for the players to do something completely unhinged that people will be talking about for a good long time. If you’re lucky, you’ll end up rich and owning a giant space station. They always talk about wanting to go back to them. It’s that whole rose-colored glasses thing. We had a good time playing those games, and over time we moved on, or the game did. Sometimes, the developers decide to bring them back, annnnd… yeah. It takes a special kind of person to go back to and stick with these games.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>They’re not specifically made for expert players, but it does turn out that the old games that we grew up with are sometimes more difficult by virtue of the systems in place when those games were being made. In fact, the developers have gone out of their way to make it as easy an experience as possible. However, there are some areas where being an expert player helps. One of these is the game’s true endgame – glamour. This game is a fashion show and everyone knows it. Sooner or later, you will be judged and it’s a bit like walking into a group of mean girls when all your good clothes are in the wash.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>More seriously, though, and what y’all are probably here for, there is a section of the population that is there to punish themselves. You can find these people in Party Finder day and night, banging their heads against the wall as they push through the savage raids and Ultimates. In addition to the technical difficulty of these activities, there are other punishing factors. The first is dealing with party finder, finding a group that you can actually work together with long enough to get the job done. The other, in the case of Ultimates, is simply that it’s a test of stamina. They’re practically designed to wear the players out. Keep in mind, it’s very possible you’ll be doing this with people you don’t even like, just to get that shiny weapon and title. The company has a debt of about 2.4 billion won (1.7 million USD). Accounts have been seized by insurance companies. The developer is under investigation by the Ministry of Labor and Employment. And, Amazon locked the developer’s AWS account earlier this month for lack of payment – leaving them unable to push any updates.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>To try to pay Amazon, the company’s founder sold off all the PCs sitting around not being used due to developers leaving, only that money was taken by the insurance companies. So, the company is being dissolved. At the same time, a tentative closure date has been set for Second Wave of June 24. Embracer Group is adopting a new AI policy package to “massively enhance” production. They believe it will increase efficiency, improve personalization, and optimize gameplay as well as provide players with a “personalized experience”.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>The intended use of AI in the game development process isn’t surprising. Every large company is more or less chomping at the bit to add it to their workflow. Where things get really interesting is that Embracer also plans to use AI in areas like HR, to “improve planning, decision-making, support talent acquisition and enhance employee experiences or retention.” That last bit is a little interesting considering they laid off more than 1,500 employees, not all that long ago.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>The company goes on to state that it is “taking a human-centric approach” with AI and that rather than using it to eliminate employees, it might actually create room for new ones – specifically in the coding department. Embracer’s head of privacy and AI Thomas Hedman notes a potential benefit to people with disabilities, giving an example of someone not being able to use a keyboard as easily as others.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>The other thing of note is that Embracer is taking what they call a “risk-aware approach” with AI. The company notes that the fact AI is trained on historical data can cause it to have issues with things like making decisions. The creation of this map pays particular attention to some known landmarks like the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ, the city hall, the central market, the shopping area, and the steep cliffs to the left bank of the Volga river.  \u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>Of course, new weapons are added, too. We'd farm for hours, usually drinking, until everyone had their mounts.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>We affectionately dubbed those drunk hours in Rift as \"Drifting\", or \"Drunk Rifting\".\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>A good time was had by all. Just ask Q, her and I ended up married in the game simply to get the perks that came with it at the time.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>It's hard to have those same feels about Rift these days. While many certainly blame gamigo for the total lack of anything going on in the MMO besides recurring events, Trion Worlds made its fair share of bad decisions before gamigo bought their games up.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>Anyway, I digress.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>If you still haven't managed to get all of the rewards in Rift's Hellbug Invasion event, I guess now is as good a time as any. Starting today and ending on the 24th, (really? three days?), the Hellbugs have returned to Telara. This means one dead MMO (maybe it is on life support still?) is literally hosting a crossover event based on a totally dead Defiance (or Defiance 2025 if you prefer.)\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>While the event used to have Hellbug rifts spawning that you could farm, it seems, at least \u003Ca href=\"https://www.trionworlds.com/rift/en/2024/06/21/the-hellbugs-are-invading-telara-2/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to the post\u003C/a>, that the event is now just a few extra dailies that you can complete to earn motes and then spend them on rewards. Right away, many viewed the game as a way to cash in with a \"pretty close to WoW\" clone. \u003Ca href=\"https://www.mmobomb.com/news/tarisland-producer-pushes-back-comparisons-to-world-of-warcraft\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tarisland hated those comparisons\u003C/a>, no matter how apt they may have been.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>Since then we've had a few tests, but large scale access was very limited. Effectively, their approach to the spear and how they weave magic using it are tied to nature. They are able to channel energy into their spear and swing it in a circle, hitting enemies at the edge with an AOE. Successful hits can result in gaining Clarity to create a stronger pattern next time. The Mesmer’s spear is a mobile, high-damage weapon that requires positioning to be used effectively.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>Revenants, on the other hand, use their spears for more destructive purposes. They pull dark power from the Mists and use it to hinder their enemies. Their abilities include a ground-targeted skill that can hit up to five enemies rewarding the player with up to two stacks of Crushing Abyss every time they land a hit. Crushing Abyss amplifies the Abyssal Raze the next time they use it.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>Finally, the Elementalists use the spear as a long-range weapon that can conjure elemental forces. Examples given are volcanos, whirlpools, and lightning storms. The spear also has a few defensive uses. Well, the Dune: Awakening Direct video showcases the game’s “MMO-like server structure”, the narrative, character creation, and more. Dune: Awakening is interesting in that rather to trying to place characters into an existing IP as it’s known, Funcom has built an alternative universe.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>This seems like an excellent move because one of the downfalls of MMORPGs is often that there are millions of “chosen ones” running around and we all just have to pretend that the people we’re playing with are not us. In Dune, this issue would be compounded by the existence of Paul Atreides.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>But what happens if Paul was never born and the world is left with a big, empty Paul-shaped space? Future content, like the upcoming new \"Crucible\" area, will not be locked behind purchases as the devs don't want to segregate their player base. That means that there is no future monetization planned, either.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>To help support the game, the team is considering some type of \"Support's Pack\" that just contains some cosmetics as a way of supporting the game, but details are sparce on that right now. It's just an idea.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>In a few other notable replies, the team confirmed that the previously teased raid is on ice for now as Echoes and launch became the focus. Wayfinder has also seen a change in their narrative approach since going one-time purchase. Expect more character driven stories as launch nears. All gaming nations have access to this tech provided you have the tech level and aircraft that can support them.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>My favorite addition is an update to cockpit visuals for a slew of helicopters and some changes to damage. For example, you can still get a flat tire on your land-based beasts, but now you could also have wheels completely blown off of your vehicle. It may not mean you're dead right away if you have multiple axles, but it is something you'll want to take care of quickly.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>Speaking of \"taking care\", you can now heal any injured troops in your vehicles if you need to get them back in tip-top shape. In addition to base game owners getting access to the previously expansion-only Level 40 cap (a good thing), the \u003Ca href=\"https://www.mmobomb.com/games/shooter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">looter-shooter\u003C/a> also announced a total revamp to how Seasons impact the game.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>These new seasons were \u003Ca href=\"https://www.reddit.com/r/thedivision/comments/1diw35x/seasons_20_megathread_all_discussion_and_feedback/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">met with quite a bit of blowback from long-term players\u003C/a> since they focus on a seasonal character, one that gets reset every season, rather than provide new content for the characters people spent years playing. In response to that pushback, Ubisoft dropped a new FAQ dedicated to talking about Seasons 2.0. Sadly, it doesn't really help if playing your main was your...well...\"main\" concern.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>It's not that seasonal content in and of itself isn't something the community wants, hell seasons have been here since 2020, but it's the lack of anything seemingly meaningful for your main to do.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>\u003Ca href=\"https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/game/the-division/the-division-2/news-updates/1zLPLz9YsHDh806oFUUUhe/seasons-20-faq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In the FAQ\u003C/a> the team states that these new seasonal characters are meant to \"transform the entire experience\" since considering the power level and progressions across the board for all players makes \"it nearly impossible to create a well-balanced experience that is enjoyable for all.\"\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>Fine, I get that. Power creep happens and when the audience goes wide across the spectrum, this makes sense.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>However, your main gets left in the dust. Sure, they'll be getting all the rewards your seasonal character gathers, but not until the very end of the season. You can only bring your main into the season during the \"Intermission\" period, which runs the final two weeks of each 17 week season.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>Sure, playing a seasonal character could be fun since each season has different modifiers, everyone starts out at level one, leveling is sped up, and activities can be tackled as you see fit without having to do the same things each season, but the limitation on main characters seems to just be a way to keep \"god-level\" characters from running around. Modifiers for each season are PvE only and seasonal and non-seasonal characters will have their own Dark Zone pools for PvP.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>Ubisoft says that mains \"remain the foundation of the account\" and specifically mentions future DLCs, but the FAQ also states that \"Right now, there are no intentions to introduce another Incursion or Raid.\" Your non-seasonal characters will be the only ones that can access Legacy Manhunts...so there's that.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>It's not what The Division 2 players wanted, that's for sure, and it concerns me just the way the team worded one of the FAQs. Keep in mind they typed this to my knowledge. This wasn't an AMA or anything. If it were, I'd like to think they would change or remove the percentage mentioned in the question in the final post to make it more representative of reality. Since the initial \"Mostly Negative\" reviews poured in yesterday, the game has recovered to a \"Mixed\" status, as of this writing.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>What was going on? We'll get to that in just a second, but first, I want to point out that the team has listed a few fixes on their X feed that have already been implemented or are coming soon. If you remember how \u003Ca href=\"https://playpaxdei.com/en-us/news/behind-the-scenes/stories-from-the-war-room\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rabbits almost killed the Pax Dei servers\u003C/a> during a past test, this was a very similar issue.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>While a fix was eventually implemented, servers were restarted multiple times while the solution was tested.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>On a more important note was players building on plots and not seeing their building actually happeneing. Turns out, it WAS happeneing, but a link to a database server was so flooded with making sure all players could see things built that it was taking about an hour for the placed item to display for all users. This was fixed, too, and was done so in a way that didn't impact anything built. You'll have plenty to spend prisms on in the Super Mega Ultrawatch season.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>The new season also brings a new battle pass containing 5 Legendary Skins, the Lifeguard Lucio Skin (which looks amazing and all Baywatch-y), credits, prisms, and more if you opt to grab the premium version of the pass.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>With over 100 million players having hit up the maps, Overwatch 2 is celebrating all heroes in a number of ways, including the return of Community Crafted mode in the arcade. When it does, you'll be able to gather, build, and explore. This early access period will last at least a year, currently planned to run until June 2025, at the earliest.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>Why does a game need a year-long early access? Quite a few reasons, it would seem. On the combat front, Pax Dei has PvE and PvP content, kinda. The team knows this is probably the largest area of work and it won't be easy or fast. They want combat to have a high skill celling, be balanced, and work for single players exploring and groups diving into dungeons. They recognize that it isn't there yet, not even close. They also advise that the PvP currently in the MMO is a test implementation. It's \"fun\", but not where it needs to be yet.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>On the civilization front, gold will be coming back to the game. This makes sense in an almost totally player-driven economy. Why farm materials if you can't sell them after you're done with them? Baseline clans are in the game now, but again, not where they need to be and this will be another huge focus over the next few months.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>It actually makes me a little bit nervous looking at the list. I understand the team wants players involved in the creation of Pax Dei, but I feel like there's always that fine line. It’s particularly celebratory this year as EverQuest turns 25 and EverQuest II is about to turn 20. Of course, it wouldn’t be a gaming event without some teases.\u003C/p>\r\n\u003Cp>As the EverQuest teams really love to do expansions, they announced one for each of the games.
